William G. Mayer, Attorney At Law in Laurens, South Carolina.
William G. Mayer has been serving the citizens in and around Laurens, S.C. in the areas of family law and criminal defense since 1999. Before that he was a solicitor prosecuting cases in Laurens and Newberry.
His private practice is on West Main Street in historic downtown Laurens. He a well-recognized fixture in and out of the courtroom, with his typical “business” wardrobe including white shirt, suit and tie, suspenders and motorcycle boots.
An easy-going and instantly like-able person, Bill (he prefers his nick name to the more formal Mr. Mayer) has either studied law, practiced law or been in the legal profession in South Carolina since 1990. Studying first as a student at University of South Carolina Spartanburg he earned a bachelor’s degree in government and business administration. After graduating USCS Bill went to USC Columbia to study law earning his law degree in two and a half years as opposed to the normal three years.
Bill’s collegiate accomplishments included being elected to Student Honor Court as a judge his : 1st year in law school. He was in Who’s Who Among law students, Academic Honor Society Gamma Beta Phi, International Legal Fraternity Phi Delta Phi, National Political Science Honor Society Pi Sigma Alpha, and received an Excellence Award from the Iowa Supreme Court for undergraduate Mock trial at The National Competition.
While Bill was always interested in Law he came to the practice of law through a different path than most. After growing up in a seaside New England town he set college aside after graduating high school to join the navy. After graduating various naval training schools he spent his years on nuclear submarines stationed in Charleston, SC until his hitch was up. That was where he fell in love with the Palmetto State.
After being honorably discharged (with some interesting awards) he managed a restaurant in Georgetown for a year and returned to his native New England to attend college. Bill studied Computer Science and Business Management and earned an Associates Degree before leaving school to take a position as a computer analyst for a national retail chain headquartered in Massachusetts. He left that job after several years for an extended vacation where he rode his motorcycle around the country. By the time his traveling days were through he’d been in each of the fifty states and had hitch-hiked around Europe for a month.
In 1990 Bill returned to South Carolina. This time he settled in the Upstate taking another position in information technologies. After a few years he left the workforce to return to school at then USC-Spartanburg to finish his Bachelors Degree and prepare for law school in Columbia.
With a high degree of professionalism Mr. Mayer is an aggressive and experienced trial lawyer having successfully tried many jury trials and bench trials to verdict in courts across the state.
When he’s not practicing law you’ll find him raising his youngest son and enjoying his two older children who are adults living in elsewhere South Carolina.
